LAB TOUR

Our laboratories and instrument facilities are located in the Norman W. Church Laboratory of Chemical Biology and the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Laboratory of Chemical Synthesis.

The Hsieh-Wilson lab-space consists of:

  • four connecting main laboratories
  • conference room
  • instrument room
  • microscope room
  • tissue culture room
  • cold room
  • gel electrophoresis room

Main Labs

Students and postdocs work in the four laboratory rooms on the first floor of Church. This lab-space contains our fume hoods, benches, and desks, and was recently renovated in 2008. In order to facilitate communication between lab members, all room are connected via a common walkway.

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) for characterizing polymers

Conference Room

Our conference room is equipped with a state-of-the-art projection system, two PCs and one Macintosh computer for group usage, two printers, an overhead projector, scanner, bookshelves, and a whiteboard. The kitchen sink, fridge, and coffee area are also located in this room (which doubles as a breakroom).

Instrument Room

The instrument room is located across the hall from our main laboratories and contains our analytical instruments, sample-handing equipment, storage freezers, and refrigerators.

Microscope Room

Originally a microscope room in the basement of Crellin building, we have expanded our instrument room into this room as well.

Fluorescence microscope

Cryostat for preparing frozen tissue sections

Isothermal titration calorimeter (ITC) for quantifying protein-glycan interactions

Plate reader for photometric and fluorescent-based assays

Auxiliary Rooms

In addition to the aforementioned spaces, our lab is also equipped with a cold room, tissue culture room, and gel electrophoresis room. All three rooms are located across the hallway from the main labs, on the first floor of Church building.
