Chem 24ab Introduction to Biophysical Chemistry
9 units (3-0-6); second, third terms

Prerequisites: Ma 1 abc, Ph 1 abc, Ch 21 a or Ph 2 ab. Fundamental physical chemistry, with emphasis on those topics most important in biology. Thermodynamics and its applications to aqueous solutions and living systems, membrane potentials and the thermodynamics of transport, reaction kinetics and mechanisms, transport properties, applications of molecular spectroscopy in biology, and statistical mechanics with applications to biological polymers.
